Police are stepping up patrols for hands-free driving violations on Thursday, April 7.

It is part of the Connect-2-Disconnect national campaign that is meant to crack down on distracted driving.

Increased patrols will be on the lookout for people using mobile devices while driving.

Distracted driving is anything that takes your attention away from the road, but the use of mobile devices has become a problem.

Indiana passed the hands-free device driving law in 2020.

Violators could face a Class C infraction, fines up to $500, and points added to their license.

It’s time to start using unmarked cars for this. I pull up next to people holding their phone several times a day, but those people would drop their phone in their lap when they see a marked police car.
