A LaPorte County man whose arrest became the center of protests, earlier this year, has pleaded guilty to charges of resisting law enforcement and carrying a handgun without a license.

Tahir Kelly was arrested in April after an encounter with Michigan City Police. During that encounter Kelly ran off. He was tased and fell and, in the process, suffered facial injuries.

The incident was captured on officer body cam footage that was released for the public to see, but some people still questioning whether or not all of Kelly’s facial injuries were caused by the fall.

Kelly faces one year in prison and one year on probation.
