The City of South Bend chose a contractor and set a timeline for the remediation work at the Lasalle Park/Beck’s Lake site.

The contract has been awarded to HRP Construction.

The work will take place this summer.

The announcement comes after the city, the E.P.A. and Honeywell entered into an agreement to clean up areas within LaSalle Park after tests confirmed high levels of lead.

The plan calls for removal of topsoil and subsoil to be replaced with new, clean soil. Similar soil removal and replacement will occur in two nearby non-City owned properties.

The E.P.A.’s approval of the plan is incorporated into a Consent Agreement in which neither the City, nor Honeywell, admit any liability for the past contamination.
