Indiana Senator Mike Braun says he’s not sure what the president is doing after he called on U.S. oil refineries to produce more oil to help alleviate the economy.
“I’d love to hear, particularly, what (President Biden) is talking about,” said Braun in an interview with Fox Business. “I don’t think he has a clue.”
In a letter to oil companies sent this week, the president said “My administration is prepared to use all reasonable and appropriate Federal Government tools and emergency authorities to increase refinery capacity and output in the near term and to ensure that every region of this country is appropriately supplied.” Biden issued the letter because of high gas prices across the country.
Braun said he recently spoke with a small refiner who said they are already refining at full capacity. “They could have, and maybe some other refineries, have increased production capabilities,” argued Braun. “But not when Biden and every democratic candidate were tripping over one another to see who would shut down the oil and gas industry.”
The Senator called Biden’s letter “craziness at its best.”
