What will the future have in store for Michigan? Higher lakes, and higher temperatures.
That’s according to the new climate forecast released by NOAA, the National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration and their National Centers for Environmental Information. Their state climate summaries were released as a follow-up to the Third National Climate Assessment of 2017.
Temperatures in Michigan have risen nearly 3°F since the start of the 20th Century.
Predicted environmental changes suggest that Great Lakes water levels and flooding will be an issue in the state in the coming decades. Additionally, the frequency and intensity of both rain and snow are expected to increase, especially in winter and spring, and future droughts are likely to be more intense thanks to rising temperatures and the loss of moisture in the soil.
