Three people were taken into custody after South Bend Police pursued a stolen vehicle.

It was just before 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 16, when an officer observed a vehicle with no license plate, traveling east on Western Avenue.

The officer then observed the vehicle accelerating at a high rate of speed and disregarding a stop sign at Kentucky and Huron Streets.

The officer began to pursue the vehicle, which lasted for a brief time until the occupants fled from the vehicle.

After a short foot pursuit, the officer apprehended two of the individuals near the 2900 block of W. Poland Street and placed them into custody.

A third suspect, a juvenile, was apprehended in the same area as an Indiana State Trooper and K9 responded to assist.

Officers later learned the vehicle had been stolen.

Ultimately, three handguns, one of which was stolen, the stolen vehicle and marijuana were recovered.

Two additional suspects took off from the scene with firearms but were not located.

Tisean Overstreet and Desmond Smith, both 18, were transported to the St. Joseph County Jail on multiple charges. The juvenile was detained at the Juvenile Justice Center on several charges.
