Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office detective under investigation by Indiana State Police

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office has received several inquiries in reference to an
investigation involving an incident with one of our deputies, Detective Joshua Whitehead and Elkhart City Chief Seymore.
The following release is in response to those inquiries.
Statement from Sheriff Jeff Siegel:
“On the evening of September 8th, 2022, I received a phone call from Chief Seymore requesting an investigation be completed into the conduct of Detective Whitehead. Chief Seymore advised that he and Detective Whitehead were involved in an argument taking place at an off-duty neighborhood event. Based on the information I was provided by Chief Seymore I contacted the Indiana State Police that evening to investigate. I have been updated on the investigation and it is with the Prosecutor’s Office.
The nature of the investigation has not been released.
