From a princess playhouse to a trip to an amusement park, a wish experience can make a world of difference to a child with a critical illness and their families. Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana is dedicated to creating those transformative moments.
About 2,000 children in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky are waiting for their wishes to come true right now. Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana needs your help to deliver these wishes. It takes a village of volunteers and we can find a way for anyone to contribute.
Research shows that Make-A-Wish experiences help children and their families endure treatment and maintain positive mental and physical well-being. From building a wheelchair-accessible playset to surprising an animal-loving little girl with a puppy of her own, our Make-A-Wish chapter is dedicated to delivering hope, strength and joy through a wish to as many kids as possible.
Having a wish granted can give a child the hope and strength they need to keep going through medical treatments for their illness, and can give a family the opportunity to make memories they wouldn’t otherwise get to have.
Parents of a child with a critical illness, must navigate the medical system while caring for a child, and that can be exhausting and frustrating. Seeing a child endure pain and treatments can make a parent feel helpless. It is the ultimate gift for a parent to have a wish bring their child joy.
Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana and our supporters are committed to that mission. Along with individual donations and volunteer opportunities, companies can rally their employees to contribute. Teams can help with a building project, such as carpentry or painting, or host an event at their workplace, like a carnival in the parking lot.
From donating money to lending a hand in building, organizing, or hosting an event, volunteers can bring wishes to life.
Delivering on a wish can be as simple as inviting a child to visit your workplace or recruiting someone you know to help. Scroll through your contacts, and you’ll find opportunities. Some kids dream of being firefighters or EMTs; if you know someone who works at a firehouse, invite that child and their family to join their team for a day. Does someone on your team have a farm? Many kids dream of interacting with animals, including horses, and riding tractors. Host a pool party in your backyard. The best ideas are often easy to bring to life.
A wish is a much-needed distraction from the difficult road of having a critical illness. Helping a child and their family have a joyful experience is both a gift and a form of positive therapy. When you see a smile on a child’s face and gratitude in their parents’ eyes, there’s truly no better reward.
Volunteering or participating in a corporate partnership can make a difference for our Wish kids and everyone involved.
