Work on County Road 17 is continuing for its extension project.

And the Elkhart County Highway Department is working to keep everyone safe on the roadway.

The Elkhart County Commissioners board has approved $200,000 for the construction of a pedestrian bike bride over US 33 and the railroad tracks. That’s a popular part of C.R. 17.

This comes after multiple deaths and injuries in the area since 2015.

The local match is $1.7 million, with $1.5 million coming from North East TIF and $200,000 coming from EDIT.
