Thanksgiving prices are up — again

This Oct. 14, 2016, photo shows some of the food from a Thanksgiving dinner from Martha & Marley Spoon in New York. For $120, or $180 which would include an 11-15 pound free-range turkey, Martha & Marley Spoon will ship just about everything you need to cook a decadent Thanksgiving dinner for eight to 10 people. If you’ve been buying everything you need for the upcoming Thanksgiving meal…you’re noticing that the price of the holiday has gone up again this year.

For the third straight year the staples for the holiday are rising.

Prices for ham are up 5.2% from last year, almost an all-time high. Canned cranberries are up a whopping 60%, and canned pumpkin is up 30%. Russet potatoes are up 14%, and prices have risen for canned green beans, sweet potatoes, and even beer and wine.

A report from the Consumer Energy Alliance also says these price increases are on top of the 20% increase for the cost of a Thanksgiving meal last year, and a 14% increase the year before that.
