Retailers are preparing themselves for a potential rise in shoplifting occurrences. Organized and unorganized retail theft has started to spike in both large and small communities.
John Talbott, Director of the center for education and retail research at the IU Kelley School of Business says that companies aren’t just putting the more valuable items behind the counter now.
They are also closing stores that are routinely victimized by theft. Some stores like CVS, are switching to a kiosk only format in certain areas where customers won’t shop in store, but rather just wait in a lounge.
