A male bald eagle found in distress at Potato Creek State Park has died of lead poisoning.

A local wildlife photographer alerted park officials on Monday after discovering bald eagle. The eagle was taken to Humane Indiana Wildlife by Rescue Release Repeat of South Bend.

As indicated on Humane Indiana Wildlife’s Facebook page, the eagle was grappling with lead toxicity, manifesting in subdued behaviors, lethargy, and tremors.

Despite the efforts of the Humane Indiana Wildlife team to administer stabilizing care, fluids, and critical care food alternatives, the bald eagle did not survive.
