Cass County Sheriff’s deputies investigate multiple weekend crashes

Police in Cass County responded to a crash at Conrad Road and US 12 in Milton Township on Friday evening, April 5. Officials believe a 55 year-old Osceola man fell asleep behind the wheel and ran off the road before striking a large tree. He was taken to Memorial Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, Cass County Sheriff’s deputies are also investigating a farm tractor crash that resulted in the death of a 23 year-old St. Joseph man. Deputies say it happened shortly after 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, when Nathan Scherer was driving a tractor carrying machinery. He was ejected after losing control, and the tractor rolled on top of him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cass County Sheriff’s deputies says Shortly before 10 p.m on Saturday, April 6, 67 year-old Mary Corbett of Virginia was headed south across Redfield Street in Cass County’s Milton Township when she failed to check for oncoming traffic. She crashed into a vehicle headed westbound driven by a 22 year-old. Corbett was taken to South Bend Memorial with unspecified injuries.
