21 homes have been selected for spring repairs as Rebuilding Together St. Joseph County celebrates 35 years.

The program, which helps elderly, disabled, veteran and low-income residents maintain their homes, selected the 21 qualifying homes on the south side of South Bend, as well as Broadway Christian Parish on Carroll Street, to receive $200,000 in home repairs.

In the program’s 35 year history, about 45,000 volunteer hours have been reported as well as about $12 million of work in the community.

ABC 57 News says the program survives through partnerships with local trades unions, volunteers and the City of South Bend.

Rebuilding Together estimates a need of about 800 volunteers this year.
