Gov. Whitmer urges Congress to find financial relief for businesses impacted by lack of snow

(Tommie Lee)

Governor Gretchen Whitmer is urging Congress to find ways that businesses impacted by the lack of snow can get financial relief.

After an unseasonably warm winter, Whitmer is looking for ways to help those businesses impacted. She, in a letter to congressional leaders and the heads of the U.S. Small Business Administration and Federal Emergency Management Agency, urged the leaders to develop regulations or legislation that allows businesses relying on winter activities to seek federal aid when there is a warm winter with little to no snow.

Bridge Michigan says the U.S. Department of Agriculture declared a drought in more than 40 Michigan counties last month, making businesses in those counties eligible for emergency SBA loans.

However, Whitmer says the solution left out many counties that truly need assistance.
