Underground Railroad Days made the list of summer events over the weekend in Cass County.
The annual event happens in Vandalia with the Underground Railroad Society of Cass County. It looks at the legacy of the Underground Railroad in Michiana, and presents the important piece of history to young people in the area.
The two-day event included a Civil War soldiers’ camp display for the 102nd U-S Colored Troops.
Four buildings, including Brownsville School #1, have been listed as sites that were important to the Underground Railroad, and restoration efforts are underway to promote their cultural significance for visiting history enthusiasts.
