SBPD to begin use of new BolaWrap restraint tool

The South Bend Police Department has added another useful tool.
It’s called a BolaWrap and is designed to deescalate incidents before higher levels of force are needed. The BolaWrap lets officers restrain someone from up to 25 feet away without using physical force. It shoots a 7.5 foot cord with two anchors on the end, giving officers time to assess and act.
It’s a non-lethal option for targeting legs or arms, but police say it won’t replace tools like tasers.
There are over 900 agencies using the BolaWrap in the country.
