A new historical marker honoring Emma Barrett Molloy will be dedicated on Wednesday at the downtown Elkhart Public Library.

Molloy started the Elkhart Observer in 1872 when she became the first female newspaper editor locally.

She became a public speaker and advocated for women’s suffrage, with her speeches taking her to an international stage, speaking at National Woman Suffrage Association conventions.

Representatives from the Elkhart County Historical Museum, part of Elkhart County Parks and the Indiana Historical Bureau will be there to share information about Molloy and her work.

It’s a free program that’s open to the public and is happening at 11 a.m. on September 4.
