The Elkhart City Council has unanimously approved a plan to increase affordable housing.
The city will provide $850,000 to support the creation of a 48-unit apartment complex in the 500 block of East Street on the site of a former wheelchair factory.
City councilor Aaron Mishler says the money will be put toward the demolition of the old factory and prepare for future development.
Half of the apartments will rent from $350-$800 a month, while the other 24 units will be between $800-$1,250 a month.
Rent will be based on income.

“Rent will be based on income.”

This is why the government needs to get out of the real estate business. What this phrase really means is “taxpayers will cover part of the rent”. It’s past time to stop with the handouts, the social safety net has become a hammock.

Government should not be involved in real estate. That is FASCISM pure and simple!

On a second front of incompetence, When will the foolish scam at the SR 19 Toll Road overpass be completed. Traffic on SR 19 has been restricted ALL SUMMER. I travel that area daily. There are never enough people working on this project to get ‘er done expeditiously. Besides, not a single person will see that abomination and say to themselves, “Hey lets stop there.” They will stop because they already know where they are going or because they saw a private sign somewhere along the road that directs them to a hotel or a restaurant. Never forget, Marxicrats always trend toward control by fascistic means.
