A collision between a pickup truck and a horse-drawn buggy on Saturday evening sent two individuals to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:02 p.m. on State Road 4 near County Road 127. A 2022 GMC pickup, driven by Daniel Beiler, 24, of Gap, Pennsylvania, struck the rear passenger side of the buggy. Both vehicles were traveling westbound at the time of the crash.
The buggy, operated by Joseph Schwartz, 34, of Goshen, Indiana, was carrying four passengers, including Margaret Schwartz, 30, who reported chest pain, and a 6-year-old boy who sustained a laceration above his eye. Both were transported to Goshen Hospital for treatment.
The remaining passengers, a 1-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, were uninjured. No injuries were reported for Schwartz or Beiler, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Police confirmed that Beiler was operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and is being held at the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.
