A standoff ended with police shooting a man wanted in connection with a grocery store robbery, leaving him with serious injuries, according to Indiana State Police.
Jacob Slocum was identified as the suspect involved in the hours-long standoff, which began around 3:30 p.m. and included officers from ISP, the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Manchester Police Department. Authorities shut down a stretch of State Road 13 between Market and East streets during the incident.
Manchester University issued a campus-wide lockdown, urging students and staff to shelter in place. The closed road borders the northern edge of the university.
Police said two people exited the property during the standoff, but Slocum remained inside. Negotiators attempted to persuade him to leave, but those efforts were unsuccessful.
Officers eventually breached the home, and Slocum fired at them, according to police. Officers returned fire, striking Slocum. Emergency crews provided life-saving aid at the scene before he was flown to a hospital.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
