A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County Road 17 and County Road 38 in Elkhart County left multiple people injured and caused extensive damage to the vehicles involved.
The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, when investigators say an Elkhart man driving Dodge Grand Caravan ran a red light and collided with a Jeep Wrangler. The impact pushed the Jeep into a traffic light pole before it slid down an embankment.
The driver of the Dodge, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, suffered a head injury and was cited for operating without financial responsibility, disregarding a lighted signal, and failure to wear a seatbelt.
The crash injured both drivers and four others. A passenger in the Jeep complained of right-side pain. Passengers in the Dodge included one individual with a cut on the back, a juvenile who reported left-side pain, and another individual who suffered a broken left arm.
Emergency responders transported the Dodge driver to Memorial Hospital, while the Jeep driver and passenger were taken to Goshen Hospital. Passengers from the Dodge were taken to Elkhart General Hospital.
