The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have had to wait a bit longer than they’d like to face Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.

This being because of the terror attack in which 15 people were killed along Bourbon Street in New Orleans. The game was postponed out of an abundance of caution by organizers.

“We’re hurting for all those affected by this tragedy,” said Irish head coach Marcus Freeman. “The city of New Orlenas has welcomed us with open arms and we are praying for the victims and their families.”

Freeman says the team got together on Wednesday to pray for the victims, but also to use the extra time to get even more prepared for the Bulldogs.

“We had to redirect our focus for preparing for this game,” Freeman said to Scott Van Pelt on ESPN. “What I told them is ‘I don’t want to wait’. But, we have to have a plan. So, we come up with a plan to utilize this time to get better prepared.”

The game will now be played at 4-pm-eastern this afternoon. The winner will face Penn State in the semifinal round at the Orange Bowl.
