Especially in recent years, many parents have expressed concerns about their kids using social media. Now, one Hoosier leader is proposing a bill to restrict that access.

If passed, the bill would essentially require social media websites to prevent access to Indiana users who are under the age of 16, unless those teens get parental permission.

Now, you may be questioning how such an effort could even be enforced. Well, State Senator Mike Bohacek (R-Michiana Shores) – who proposed the bill – has a few ideas.

One is that parents who allow their kids to use social media would have to save their credit card info to the sites, and annually determine that their children are allowed access. This access could be revoked at any time.

Also under the bill’s current form, parents would also be allowed to file lawsuits against sites that do not follow the new guidelines, as well as the families of young cyberbullies.​
