The completion of the new Elkhart County Courthouse project has been delayed.
Elkhart County attorney Steve Olsen announced a new substantial completion date in late May and a final completion date in mid-July. Originally approved in November 2021, the project’s cost has risen from an estimated $80-85 million to more than $96 million due to rising material prices.
The Goshen News reports if the courthouse isn’t substantially complete by May 25th, a $2,000 daily fine applies, increasing if final completion extends beyond July 14th.
The county attorney also said public access may not begin immediately upon completion.
