Public comment open on Palisades reopening document

The Palisades restart effort took another step forward last week.

Last Friday a draft environmental assessment from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission said “no major concerns with repowering the nuclear power plant” in Van Buren County have been found. It’s a victory for supporters of the restart, but opponents say regulators are overlooking the dangers of the aging infrastructure at the plant.

The NRC is accepting comments on the document through March 3.
