The Indiana House of Representatives says they are partnering with Helping Veterans and Families of Indiana to support homeless veterans.
Both Republican House Speaker Todd Huston of Fishers and House Democratic Leader Phil Giaquinta of Fort Wayne started a donation drive recently to collect food, clothing, hygiene items, and monetary donations at the Statehouse through March.
“Our veterans devoted their lives to defending our state and our country. I encourage my colleagues here in the Statehouse and all Hoosiers to support HVAF and our veterans in need through this initiative,” said Huston.
In October 2024, a house fire at an HVAF facility displaced 48 veterans. HVAF CEO Emmy Hildebrand says they have been working nonstop since that fire to support those who were affected.
“We are honored to be a resource to those who have served our country. Last year, 1346 veterans received life changing services at HVAF. Our veteran’s community center distributed over 105,000 pounds of food and clothing so the donations collected this session will be a big part of that effort,” said Hildebrand.
All money donated is being accepted to help in the reconstruction effort’s to HVAF’s largest housing property after the fire.
