The Michigan City Public Library closed for repairs after a pickup truck crashed through its fiberglass exterior Sunday morning.

Michigan City Police said 42-year-old Blake Skoda, stopped at a traffic light on U.S. 12, drank an energy drink, felt tightness in his chest, and blacked out.

After losing consciousness, Skoda’s truck sped across all four lanes of U.S. 12 and crashed into the library’s north side.

Library Director Don Glossinger reported that the truck came to a stop after hitting several heavy bookshelves, damaging a study room and a conference room.

The library remains closed for repairs.
