Michigan’s DNR is reminding new hunters to sign up for a hunter safety course before this month’s turkey hunting season.

The season begins April 19, so time is running out to get the classes in before the hunt begins. The DNR Law Enforcement Division says anyone born after 1960 who wants to hunt in Michigan has to be certified in order to obtain a hunting license.

There are a number of options for the classes, some are in person and others can be taken remotely. The classes focus on firearm safety, wildlife and habitat management, ethics, and even the options to learn about blood tracking, animal recovery, and use of a map or compass. You can learn more at https://www.michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/hunting/education.
