A new study suggests hospitals nationwide are performing too many C-sections.
It’s a study by The Leapfrog Group, a national hospital watchdog organization. The study looks at maternity trends in hospitals and suggests that too many of them rely too often on C-sections for births.
M-Live reports that the study mentions Corewell Health Lakeland in St. Joseph as being among the lowest-scoring hospitals in Michigan. Leapfrog advises keeping the percentage of C-section births under 24% for low-risk, first time mothers due to the risks associated with the process. Corewell’s percentage is 30.5.
