Former Elkhart Mayor Dick Moore passes away

Former Elkhart Mayor Dick Moore has passed away. Moore served two terms as Mayor and was first elected to the role in 2007.

Current Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson issued the following statement:

“The City of Elkhart is in a state of shock and mourning as we learned of the passing of Dick Moore this morning. I first met Dick back in the late 90’s. When I ran for City Council he was very involved with the current Mayor and City council members. Dick was servant leader. Everything from his time as Street Commissioner, to being Fire Chief, to being Mayor. He spent much of his life serving the City of Elkhart. He had a work ethic that couldn’t be duplicated, and he believed in Elkhart and loved the upper Saint Joseph River. He even owned the Elkhart River Queen at one point and was a fundamental figure to the Elkhart community. He was a lover of his country and his city. He and his wife Nancy will be sorely missed.”
