Man, 71, killed in crash on Mud Lake Street in Cass County

A 71-year-old man was killed Saturday morning in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Penn Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the area of Mud Lake Street and Penn Road around 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, where they found the vehicle overturned after striking a tree. Despite life-saving efforts by deputies and fire personnel, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined the man was traveling eastbound on Mud Lake Street when he left the roadway. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Authorities said alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been factors.

The incident remains under investigation.
