Fatal semi crash shuts down Indiana Toll Road in LaPorte County

A semi driver was killed in a rollover crash on the Indiana Toll Road, prompting a shutdown of westbound lanes as crews worked to clear the scene.

Indiana State Police say the crash happened around 11:40 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, near mile marker 50.5, about a half-mile east of the LaPorte exit.

According to investigators, a blue Volvo semi hauling frozen food was traveling westbound when it veered into the center median for unknown reasons. The truck remained upright for roughly 300 feet before reentering the roadway, where it tipped onto its left side and slid approximately 226 feet before stopping.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
