Get ready for potential changes on Indiana highways.
House Bill 1461 allows the Indiana Department of Transportation to explore tolling on additional roadways. The law allows INDOT to seek federal approval for tolls on any highway and for many drivers, this means routes they’ve traveled for free for years could soon come with a daily cost.
Lawmakers say Indiana’s gas tax isn’t bringing in enough money to keep up with road repairs and improvements. A recent analysis shows tolling could generate around $38 billion for Indiana through 2050.
State officials say no final decisions on specific toll roads have been made, and any proposals would require further review. Stay tuned for updates.

So Indiana legislatures want to charge “tolls” on interstate highways through the state! Oh what a terrific idea! Now the commercial trucks will start running on state roads to avoid the tolls. This creating more traffic and congestion in cities! Way to go Indiana! Your fiscal irresponsibility has hit home! Now you are going to make the problem worse! THANKS!!!
If they are going to eliminate other taxes okay…but I don’t see that happening. They are only looking for more of our money with no offset. I don’t have a problem with use taxes but just more taxes I do have a problem with.
In Orlando tollways work because they were built new to relieve congestion. But if Indiana greedy lawmakers think they can just slap tolls on existing roads they will lose any support the public has for such a scheme.
