School officials from Berrien Springs testified about school bus legislation last week in Lansing.
There’s an effort in the state legislature to make it illegal to pass a school bus with flashing yellow lights, and a transportation official from Berrien Springs offered testimony in favor of the idea.
WSJM reports that a bill passed a State House Committee on Tuesday that would require drivers to stop at all flashing school bus lights, not just red ones.
The Director of Transportation for the Berrien Springs schools told lawmakers he once saw a vehicle blow past a school bus at 55 mph and hit a child, who thankfully survived. Police determined the driver did nothing wrong because the bus had its yellow lights flashing, not its red ones.
