Whitmer seeks a semiconductor manufacturer in Michigan before end of second term

Governor Whitmer has a lofty goal in mind before she leaves office…a semiconductor fabrication plant in Michigan.

Whitmer says one of those plants would create up to 6,000 jobs in the state, and she wants Michigan to land one by the end of next year — her last in the Governor’s Mansion.

Bridge Michigan reports that she has lobbied President Trump about getting federal backing for a plant, which could be funded under a Biden-era law. On Wednesday she spoke about her desire to put Michigan in the semiconductor business, but didn’t mention any specific project but she does have a prospect in mind.

She has visited the White House several times in the first four months of Trump’s second term.
