A handicap ramp stolen from a home in the River Park neighborhood has been recovered and returned to its owner, according to South Bend Police.
The theft occurred on Wednesday, May 28, in the 800 block of South 29th Street. The homeowner contacted police after discovering the ramp had been taken earlier that day.
The South Bend Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit launched an investigation and obtained a surveillance image showing a silver ramp in the bed of a pickup truck. That image was shared on social media and with local news outlets in an effort to identify the individual involved.
Shortly after the image was circulated, the owner of the vehicle came forward and began cooperating with investigators. Based on new evidence provided, police say the truck is no longer considered a suspect vehicle.
The stolen ramp was returned to the homeowner on Friday.
Police are reminding residents to use caution when buying or selling items online.
