After County Council approved a multi-million dollar bond Tuesday night, the St. Joseph County Parks Department is moving forward with key projects.
Besides building the new park in Granger, the bond will fund replacing the Lasalle Park bridge, repairing roofs at St. Patrick’s amphitheater and eight other parks, and building new storage for tubes, kayaks, and canoes.
Parks Director Steve Slauson says the funding is rare and vital. “We’ve never had a true capital projects fund. This money will help us tackle long-overdue maintenance and bigger projects,” he said. Fixing the amphitheater roof at St. Patrick Park is a top priority.
