Seocnd District Congressman Rudy Yakym says President Trump’s newly signed bill will ease the tax burden on Hoosiers by cutting taxes on tips and overtime.
“It fulfills many of the promises that I made to Hoosiers,” Yakym said. “It makes the 2017 Trump tax breaks permanent.”
Beyond taxes, Yakym says the law pumps nearly $200 billion into border enforcement, which he believes will boost local economies and make communities safer.
“Overall, Tom Homan is very happy with what we put into this bill for border security,” he added.
Yakym spoke just days after the House passed the bill. He said the law gives law enforcement more resources without raising taxes or relying on extra overtime.
“The most money that’s ever been cut in American history from our federal government is about $400 billion,” he said. “This bill cuts well over a trillion dollars of federal government spending.”
Yakym says illegal immigration is fueling crime in places like Indianapolis and believes the new law will ease that burden by sending more help to the southern border, allowing local officers to focus on issues at home.
“Whether it’s gangs or drugs that just run wild, no community was immune from this,” he said.
He also expressed concern about violence in Indianapolis and called for stricter sentences from local prosecutors, saying that’s the only way to stop violence involving teenagers.
