Six teenagers have been detained following a firearms investigation by the South Bend Police Department’s Strategic Focus Unit.
Officers were looking into reports of illegal gun possession, earlier this week, and identified a home in the 1700 block of S. Brookfield Street. As officers attempted to make contact at the home, several individuals fled while others remained and cooperated.
Police detained six juveniles, all between 16 and 17 years old. A search warrant was executed at the home, where officers recovered three firearms – including one modified with a machine gun conversion device. Another firearm was found outside the residence.
Four of the juveniles were taken to the St. Joseph County Jail, and two were transported to the Juvenile Justice Center. All face preliminary charges related to illegal firearm possession.
