A 19-year-old Plymouth man was seriously injured in a crash involving a pickup truck and a semi near the intersection of U.S. 6 and State Road 331.

According to Indiana State Police, the crash happened around 9:50 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, when a red Peterbilt semi traveling eastbound on U.S. 6 stopped to turn left onto the ramp to State Road 331. While the semi was waiting for westbound traffic to clear, a silver 2006 GMC pickup, also traveling eastbound, struck the rear right side of the trailer.

Police say the pickup’s driver skidded roughly 190 feet before coming to a stop.

He was first transported by ambulance to Bremen Hospital and later flown by MedFlight to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with serious injuries. The 59-year-old Niles man driving the semi was not injured.

Both directions of U.S. 6 were closed for approximately two hours during the crash investigation and cleanup.
