IDOC delays closure of Michigan City Prison

The Indiana Department of Correction has delayed the planned closure of the Michigan City Prison beyond its 2027 target date.
The decision is drawing criticism from State Senator Rodney Pol, who is calling the move “costly and shortsighted.”
Pol said keeping the outdated prison open wastes taxpayer money and stalls plans for new housing and businesses in the community, adding that taxpayers should not be asked to pay for federal responsibilities.
