Suspect charged with murder in South Bend bar shooting

A man originally charged in connection with a shooting outside a South Bend bar is now facing a murder charge after the victim died from his injuries.
Police were called to the 1500 block of Portage Avenue, outside My Place Bar & Grill, just before 3 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10. Officers found 27-year-old Jaylin Micou suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Investigators with the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit identified 21-year-old Keithus Giden III as the suspect. Working with the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office, Giden was initially charged with Attempted Murder and Aggravated Battery. He was arrested on August 12.
Micou died from his injuries on August 23. Following his death, prosecutors upgraded the charges against Giden to Murder.
Giden is being held without bond at the St. Joseph County Jail.
