A months-long investigation that began in Illinois has led to the arrest of a Burns Harbor man on multiple child pornography charges.
Authorities say 36-year-old Timothy John Olson was taken into custody Wednesday morning during a traffic stop, following a joint investigation involving the Lake County (Illinois) State’s Attorney’s Office and the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Unit.
The case began in 2024 after the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office received multiple Cyber Tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children related to several Kik Messenger accounts. Investigators issued multiple search warrants and subpoenas, eventually determining that the suspect was living in Burns Harbor, Indiana.
In February 2025, Indiana investigators executed a search warrant at Olson’s residence, seizing several electronic devices. A forensic analysis conducted by the Indiana State Police Digital Forensics Unit revealed files containing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).
Olson was booked into the Porter County Jail and is being held on two counts of Possession of Child Pornography, Level 5 Felony, and one count of Possession of Child Pornography, Level 6 Felony.
