The St. Joseph County Department of Health is asking residents to test their homes for radon gas.

One out of four homes in the County has elevated radon levels, and yours may be one of them.

The EPA says extended exposure to radon gas leads to about 21,000 deaths from lung cancer in the country each year.

Any home can have elevated radon, regardless of age, condition or location, so it is important to test your home regularly.

The Department of Health is offering free radon test kits, and those with elevated radon levels may qualify for a grant to obtain a home radon remediation system.
