Two hospitalized after crash between car, cement mixer

Two people were taken to the hospital after a crash involving a car and a cement mixer at the intersection of State Road 13 and County Road 20.
According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened justa fter 11 a.m. on Fr when a 2014 Ford Flex turned left onto County Road 20 and failed to yield to an oncoming 2019 Terex Advance Mixer traveling north on State Road 13.
Deputies said the cement mixer struck the passenger side of the Ford Flex in the intersection. The impact sent both vehicles off the roadway, where they hit a fence. The mixer also struck a NIPSCO utility pole.
The driver of the Ford Flex complained of pain to the chest, knees, and left wrist, while the mixer driver suffered a laceration to the forehead. Both were taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Ford Flex was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
