Police say a 26-year-old Elkhart man was drunk when he caused a deadly crash in LaGrange County.

The collision happened around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18, on County Road 1000 West near State Road 120.

Investigators say Juan Diaz Perez was driving north when his SUV crossed the center line and hit a southbound pickup head-on.

The pickup’s driver, 73-year-old James Eash of Shipshewana, died at the scene. Diaz Perez was treated for injuries, then arrested on charges of OWI Causing Death, OWI Endangerment, and driving without a license.
