A Michigan City man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that killed a LaPorte resident outside Matey’s Bar.
Police said Daquvay Sherrod, 35, was taken into custody Thursday by the Michigan City Police Department’s SWAT team at a home in the 1900 block of Buffalo Street. Sherrod faces a murder charge in the death of Dante Sellers II, 25, of LaPorte.
The shooting occurred just after 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 3, when officers responded to reports of gunfire and a fight outside Matey’s Bar, 110 Franklin Street. Sellers was found with a gunshot wound and later died after being transferred to the University of Chicago Hospital.
Investigators from several law enforcement units presented evidence to the LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office, leading a judge to issue a $1 million cash bond warrant for Sherrod’s arrest.
Police said the investigation remains active and are asking anyone with information or video of the incident to contact Sgt. Lendell Hood at (219) 874-3221, ext. 1074, or lhood@emichigancity.com. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the department’s hotline or the WeTip service at (800) 78-CRIME.
