The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority awarded tax credits for three major affordable-housing projects in South Bend last week.

Mayor James Mueller says the state’s support will help transform long-vacant lots and expand options under the city’s “all-of-the-above” housing strategy.

The projects include the $13.8 million Donald and Main Apartments by KCG Companies, adding 50 units; Tri Day, a $13.7 million South Bend Heritage project bringing 42 units to the far northwest; and Heritage Trails, a $47.4 million development by Birge & Held creating 180 units on West Chippewa Avenue.

Altogether, the projects represent $75 million in investment and 272 new affordable homes.
