The South Bend Police Department has assumed control of the investigation into a police stand-off and officer-involved shooting that occurred Sunday in Mishawaka.

According to authorities, officers with the Mishawaka Police Department and the St. Joseph County Metro SWAT responded to a home on Conner Drive for a reported hostage situation.

After several hours of negotiations, police said three adults and two juveniles were safely rescued from the residence. No hostages were injured during the incident.

Police said the suspect was wounded by police gunfire and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The suspect’s condition has not been released.

Under an interlocal agreement between area law-enforcement agencies, the South Bend Police Department’s SBPD Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation. Authorities said additional details will be released as the case develops.

Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be forwarded to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
